So apart from it saying “(the) elegant Lincoln: 1959 model year”, I don’t know any of the rest. No, I don’t know how there happens to be a Rooski Lincoln ad. Ask Khrushchev’s forehead vein.

Is that a Continental emblem on the Capri? Or Premiere? I never could tell the difference

It’s a Premiere. “Lincoln” script instead of “Continental” script on the fender, different grill (Continental is unique), no Breezeway window, and the big brightwork panel behind the wheel is present (Continental is different). It has a little rectangular emblem on the fender relief, which, with having a hood ornament, are the easy Premiere vs. Capri spots.

I knew the Continental and Lincoln differences. I figured the two differences you pointed out were characteristic of Capri/Premiere differences but I wasn’t exactly sure.

It looks like the hubcaps are also slightly different, though for the life of me I can’t imagine why.

I tried to translate the text with a photo translate app and got something like this:

On somewhat related note, there’s also this english ZIL brochure I happened to find earlier this year.

On the topic of hood ornaments, I think the one from a ‘49-’51 Lincoln/Mercury would fit nicely...

Well done. The “premier piece” is more accurately translated Premiere model (as opposed to Capri and Continental), something that knowing model names helps with. Not surprising a Russian ad would use a poetry metaphor. I especially like that it’s a Classical Nobility Yeti as well - I wonder what that is correctly translated as. I think the mention of “goes in three” refers to the three body styles and not the trim levels - the convertible, landau sedan, and coupe. A pig at the bottom is I suspect some horribly mistranslated idiom, probably having to do with the convertible, but it’s impossible to say. The options they’re listing are such things as the electric windows, automatic choke and transmission, etc. with more available, which the customer is to be kidded about... I mean which the customer can request.

The ZIL manual is very much a blind idiot sort of translation, but slightly better than some Google material I’ve seen. Definitely proofread by someone who speaks English, but not as a first language, as it doesn’t really *flow*, uses odd phrasing, and features many relics of the original Russian that are ungrammatical. As to the car itself, its wheelbase is only 8” greater than the Lincoln in the picture, and as a whole is no longer, despite being a full limousine! 2” wider, though. It has a very interesting compromise seating arrangement - extra space when possible, but with flip-up seats for any extra flunkies who need to ride along. Sorry, bodyguard - the sharp-edged folding seat for you. I’ll have to move my feet in a bit for you to even sit there - I’m sacrificing too!

My first guess as to why this even exists in the first place was a world expo or something but there seem to have been no world expos in russian speaking countries in the 20th century.

That being said, there was an Expo in ‘58 (Brussels) with US and USSR present, and it’s possible that Ford was engaging in some very odd publicity work all the same.

This seems to be a part of this 1959 Ford brochure consisting of mostly American models.

EDIT: Translated the comments on that page and found out that there was American National Exhibition held in Moscow in 1959.

Here’s a Wikipedia article about it.

I approve of that hood ornament. It looks better than the actual Lincoln hood ornament of the era

Apparently it was at the first exhibition of the Sokolniki Exhibition and Convention Centre . Thanks should be forwarded to AuroraMan at drive2.ru, who mentioned it. There was an American National Exhibition held there, featuring Ford, GM, General Electric, and others. Surely any of the pamphlets from that show are to be treasured.

And it would make the mirror of that shape in the hood look like a bow wave/contrail/something being left by the ornament. Fab.

Should have known you, like me, would investigate the comments for clues. Makes for a fascinating situation.

Totally. Is it off the trailer yet?

Haha. Nope. I have a plan, though, should make it easy. Chain off to the permanently mounted iron shelving in the shop, use the lift to pick up the back on the subframe rails, put the front wheels on wheel dollys, draw the trailer out from under until it’s close, and then catch the front subframe with jacks/blocks from each side. Should go perfectly and leave things in place to set it on cribbing, which can be adjusted to relate the front/rear subframes for welding the new rockers, work on the wheels to get them loose, etc. Only trick is that either a lift bay or my dad’s trailer will be tied up for the short term future... I may be able to swing things by putting temp wheels on the Ranchero - assemble front suspension, buy my disc brake kit, and get either temp or final wheels. Possibly borrow said wheels from the trailer, roll out, put on jack stands, move wheels back. HURR DURR

Sounds like the plan should work. The massive size of the Lincoln certainly makes things complicated. I (and I am sure the rest of Oppo) will be excited to see how the progress of this car goes. I am sure Oppo will also be excited when they find out it is staying in the Oppo family so people can still follow the story.

It’s so massive that the lift could pick it up on either side of the trailer fenders and still hit support between the wheels... if the lift could spread that wide and not hit the fenders on the way. It can’t, unless I were to run a girder under the car somehow for each end. So, one end at a time it is, probably.

I had another amazing idea for visual things. Headlight visors on the lower headlights. There is no kill like overkill.
